We prepared to leave Nassau Marina Club on Friday
morning where we were docked alongside Release.
The weather was beautiful. There
were a couple of festive guys who were on a power boat docked in front of
us. They had been up all night drinking
and took the water hose to Bill as he was freeing our dock lines. Of course, the hearing aids were soaked along
with the rest of Bill. I thought Ken on
Release was going to kill them. Anyway,
good thing we were leaving. And leave we
did and had a beautiful sail to Allan’s Cay.
We anchored and the wind blew up and the current ran hard that
night. At 5:30 a.m. we were awakened by
WishBone doing some hard bumping on bottom.
The wind and current had taken us back on the shoal and we were aground
as a result of the hard wind, full moon causing a very low tide and fast
current. Bill managed to get us off the
shoal and we took in some scope.
However, we came close to the same thing happening again in the
afternoon, so hauled anchor and moved.
Allan’s cay is surrounded by other smaller cays all
with beaches and only one beach without iguanas. That one beach is April and Skipper’s
playground.
Yesterday we took the dinghies and fuel cans into
Highbourne Cay for fuel. It was about a
mile from Allan’s Cay. It is beautiful
in there but not a place for sailboats.
There were however some very large yachts. The wind was blowing the sea, so we got very
wet on the trip back to the boats.
Today is Bill’s birthday. It is sunny but too cool for swimming. The anchorage is full of boats seeking to get
out of another front coming through tomorrow.
We have invited Release for dinner
and a game of dominos on WishBone.
We are unsure about our future destination. The weather is playing a huge part in where
we go.

Yesterday we decided to leave Allan’s Cay and travel
on to Norman’s Cay – about 20 miles. We
did a stopover off Highbourne Cay to pick up wifi off the Batelco cell phone
tower. We found this beautiful spot off
Norman’s. We took April and Skipper
over to the beaches yesterday afternoon and what fun they had. April was exhausted from hunting, swimming
and playing in the sand with Skipper.
Today, we are going to explore the area to see if we can find some
conch. Typically, the wind is blowing
hard, but it is sunny and warm.

One week later and still no WiFi. I decided I had better write to the blog
however because my memory is just so long these days of no time and no day and
no date. Island time! We left Norman’s Cay and headed for Staniel
Cay. We love Staniel! There is a settlement here, airport, etc. so
lots going on in its primitive state. There
are lots of grottos with beaches for the dogs and snorkeling. We have been anchored here three days, loving
every minute of it. April is just one
big salt bag. She has been in the water
90% of the time. We are leaving tomorrow
AM at high tide for Black Point. Black
Point I also love, but for different reasons.
The children at Black Point are so special. Black Point has water spouts where you can
get drinking water. We are going to bath
April and donate to the school for the water.
We are also going to anchor and enjoy the fresh catch from the fishermen
that come in every day. We did conch in
Compass Cay and enjoyed our catch.
However, there is nothing like a snapper or Mahi Mahi or Grouper at the
end of the day. We are all fine. WishBone continues to have a shaft
problem. We will see tomorrow when we
motor to Black Point if the problem is solved with a fellow cruiser’s special
mixture. Thanks for following us. We are under weight, very tanned and very
happy. We are sailing with our friends
and that make it all very special. Love
to you all!
January 31st
We are sitting here at Lorraine's Café in Black Point, under a tree with a cool breeze blowing, waiting for our grouper sandwich and using the WiFi - finally! April has roamed the cay and beach and had a swim.
